Good News for Guilty People (Psalm 130)
Psalm 130 My Soul Waits for the Lord
The greatest hope for guilty people is not that they can claw their way back to God, but that God delights in redeeming the guilty.
Good News for the Guilty…
1) Reach out from rock bottom. (v. 1-2)
We don’t need to look for a loophole.
Mercy is when we don’t get what we deserve.
The lie: “I can return after I clean myself up.”
2) Rest in radical forgiveness. (v. 3-4)
Forgiveness is not probation.
God can offer mercy without compromising His holiness because of the cross.
Mercy should produce awe.
3) Remain hopeful while you wait. (v. 5-6)
Forgiveness does not remove all the consequences of guilt.
He has fresh mercy for us every day.
We can wait with confident expectation.
4) Run to redeeming love. (v. 7-8)
When we get free, we can help others find freedom.
God’s love is steadfast.
There is more redemption in God than there is guilt in us.
The Gospel is the story of God showing how much He loves us.
The story of the prodigal son shows God’s posture and heart for us.
We can be quiet to repent.
