God Grows Us to Maturity (Psalm 131)

Psalm 131 I Have Calmed and Quieted My Soul

Like a good parent, God is committed to helping us grow up to maturity.

Growing up…

1) Involves removing our pride.

2) Is as painful and satisfying as a child moving from milk to solid food.

Consolation: The felt-presence of God for the purpose of growth.

Desolation: The felt-absence of God for the purpose of growth. (Psalm 88)

Deuteronomy 8 “And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.”

Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”

Romans 5:8–10" “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”

2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
