In week eleven of A Beautiful Kingdom, our series teaching through the Sermon on the Mount, Pastor Jamin Stinziano teaches from Matthew 6:1-8 and 16-18. Jesus warns against practicing our righteousness to be seen by others, whether we’re giving, praying, or fasting. The word “hypocrite” literally means actor, and Jesus calls His followers to stop performing. Our Father sees what’s done in secret, the good and the bad, and He loves us anyway. Because of that, we can trade self-exalting motives for Jesus-exalting ones and live real, authentic lives that seek His reward over anyone else’s applause.
