Blessing and Being Blessed (Psalm 134)

Psalm 134 Come, Bless the Lord

The Christian life is a continual rhythm of blessing the Lord and being blessed by the Lord.

God gives what we lack; we give what God deserves.

1) We bless the Lord because He is worthy. (v. 1-2)

Why don’t we bless the Lord?

  • We are trivial (lesser things capture our attention).

  • We are self-centered (we evaluate God’s worth by what He does for us).

  • We are oblivious to God (we move through a “God-drenched” world without noticing).

QUESTIONS: What has captured my attention more than God’s worth? What does God want me to notice today?

2) God blesses us because He is generous. (v. 3)

Why does the Lord bless us?

  • He is gracious (He’s generous to the undeserving).

  • He is compassionate (He’s generous to the needy).

  • He is good (He’s generous to the beloved).

QUESTIONS: Where am I struggling to trust the generosity of God? What blessing of God have I received but maybe forgotten?
