Child Dedication

What is Child Dedication?

The dedication of children is a voluntary act in which believing parents publicly present their child and themselves to the Lord as an outward expression of their gratitude to Him for the child and as a formal appeal to God for His assistance in rearing the child. It is not viewed as an ordinance of the church and does not impart salvation.

When dedicating their child in the presence of fellow believers, parents publicly dedicate themselves to the faithful fulfillment of their parental responsibilities (Deut. 6:4-9; Prov. 22:6) and acknowledge their need for the prayerful support and encouragement of those fellow believers (Eph. 6:18; Heb. 10:24-25).

Child Dedication & Covenant Membership

Parents dedicate their children in the presence of their church family and acknowledge their need for the prayerful support and encouragement of fellow believers. Therefore, if you consider Summit Church the body of Christ that God is calling you to do life with, we require that parents be covenant members before participating in Child Dedication. During the membership class, our pastors and staff share in-depth information about our church and beliefs and answer any questions you may have. It’s also an opportunity to discover ways to find connection and support through Summit's ministries and community groups. If you have not been a part of our Membership Class, we would love for you to join us.
