Introducing Global Fellowship
After decades of envisioning, strategic planning, and development, Global Fellowship is fast becoming a dynamic empowerment for many national movements of God in pivotal geographic locations. Launched globally last fall, leading pastors from across the US are joining together to come alongside indigenous pastors in other parts of the world to form significant partnerships. Their purpose is to work in unity to impact entire countries (every man, woman, and child), with the gospel of Jesus Christ. For more information regarding Global Fellowship click here.
Below is a brief interview with Dwight Smith of Global Fellowship conducted by Amy Tartick from The Chapel in Buffalo, NY.
KC Chronicles: Dwight, what is Global Fellowship and how did it come about?
Dwight Smith: For generations, world mission leaders have asked the question: how do we complete the task left us by our Savior, to take the Gospel to every man, woman, and child on the planet? Many of those generations lived in a day when faithfulness was required, but they were not going to see the results. In the last thirty years much has changed in the world. On the positive side of this statement, the world has become more responsive to the Gospel. As a result we have seen hundreds of millions of people from every tribe, tongue and nation become followers of Jesus Christ. More than thirty years ago, I did my own dreaming, with others, about how to complete the task. The Global Fellowship was the idea that came to my mind. For much of my adult life that dream was more potential than reality. But, with the size of the Church worldwide and the receptivity that the Holy Spirit is working out ahead of us, the day is now. The Fellowship calls churches in the US, specifically those who are working together in the Renovation Network, like The Chapel, to band themselves together, not only for reaching their own cities, but also for partnering with like-minded National Churches worldwide to do the same in their nation.
KC: What is the current scope of international partners and where are you looking to expand?
Dwight: We have built nation-reaching partnerships with National Church leaders in India, Cuba, and Ukraine. With the indigenous Ukrainian team, we are beginning the same in Central Asia, Russia, and Moldova. We are well along the path with startups in Argentina, and the Dominican Republic. We are making national friends in China, Kenya, Ethiopia, Haiti, Thailand and Italy, and time will tell what the Spirit of God wants to do in those places.
KC: Through your visits with church leaders in these countries, what are the greatest needs, challenges, and potential for growth?
Dwight: Their greatest need is the same as here in the US, how to mobilize their people to live and act as God has designed them. Specifically, how to help a majority of them find regular, intimate time with God, and how to help them build Spirit directed lifestyles that live and tell the story of regeneration that God is working in them. Where this occurs the message of the Gospel moves powerfully out into the world around them, and we see that God the Spirit has been working in these places to bring tens of thousands to faith and followership of Jesus Christ.
KC: How best can The Chapel family pray for you, your family and Global Fellowship?
Dwight: My wife, Patti, is supporting this global effort that we are engaged in by writing Bible study materials for poor women in India. Already there are nearly 2,000 women who are learning to nurture their lives with God the Father, through daily time in His word. Pray for wisdom as she continues to write new material. For both of us, that God will give us the physical strength to continue the course.
